Problems registering?
Mar 28th, 2008, 7:10pm

Some people are having problems registering.
Sorry about that.  Here are some tips ...

You must have a valid email address.
A valid email address may only be used on one forum account (so you might have problems if you have already used that email address on another, forgotten account).
You MUST click the I agree option below the Terms and Conditions page.
And you need to ensure that your spam filter will not cause email from forumadminATupandrunning.co.uk to be deleted.

The Forum software is quite old now and we plan to upgrade it soon which may resolve some of these difficulties.

If you need human help registering then email forumadminATupandrunning.co.uk using the email address you attempted to register with and the Login id you tried to register.

Registration - temporary arrangements
Reply #1 - Sep 29th, 2008, 5:54pm

The forums have recently been under attack by a new class of nuisance who register via valid email accounts. To prevent nuisance posts, we have removed automatic registration. This is an interim solution while we look at a more permanent solution.

If you wish to register to use these forums, please contact the Forum Admin user at Up & Running. In your email please suggest a username and password and add a few lines to convince me that you are a real person!

OK, after 40,000+ spambot 'users' broke the old forums and imemdiate action was needed.
I have carried across all the forum messages, and the 10 most recent posters, to this new forum.
Sorry to everyone else - you'll need to re-register.  Sad
The new registration process is pretty stratightforward but hopefully more spambot-proof ... it should send you an email, if not then contact me.

OK, there seem to be some problems.
Please accept our apologies.  But the old forum was broken by internet vandals and I quickly put this into place during my holidays.
I'll look into resolving the problems next week in working hours.

Looking into the problem with editing profiles now ...
I've found that the first 2 screens of Edit Profile (change password etc.) work OK but the 3rd screen with the avatars etc. on ALWAYS triggers the Server Error message.
I've reviewed all settings and can't see the cause of the problem straight away.  So I have posted a support call on the YaBB community forum.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi Paul

As a fellow techie, I googled this a bit this morning and found this link:
Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register which seems to be the same problem.

The solution in that case was:
"...narrowed the problem down to Modules/Upload/CGI.pm line 27

To get things working I had to change line 27 from...

use CGI::Util qw(rearrange make_attributes unescape escape expires ebcdic2ascii ascii2ebcdic);

to...

use CGI::Util qw(rearrange make_attributes unescape escape expires);

i.e. I had to remove "ebcdic2ascii" and "ascii2ebcdic" from line 27 in Modules/Upload/CGI.pm.
"

Fingers crossed it might help here too, worth a try?

Thanks
David
